Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), or post-viral fatigue syndrome (PVFS), is an extremely common disorder, with the prevalence ranging from 1:40 to 1:250 of the population suffering from this disease at any one time. CFS is classified by the World Health Organisation as a disease of the nervous system, yet the exact definition of CFS is still disputed by the medical profession across the world, with emphasis on different symptoms varying from country to country.  For research purposes, CFS is defined as a fatigue of new onset that has been lasting more than six months with 50% reduction of one’s daily activity. Other symptoms can include disturbed, lack of refreshing and/or prolonged sleep, problems concentrating or remembering, pain in the muscles and/or joints, headaches, sore throats and tenderness in the neck.

The treatment of the CFS is complex as there is no known single cause. The best treatment is likely to be one that takes a variety of co-factors into account.  At the Garden Clinic we approach this condition by diagnosing low grade post- viral (i.e. Epstein-Barr), bacterial (i.e. Brucellosis), parasitical (i.e. Gardia) or fungal (i.e. Tropical Candida) infections, as well as addressing nutritional habits and possible food allergies or intolerances. We then tailor an optimum treatment programme to suite individuals needs

At The Garden Clinic we primarily use Complex Homeopathy to neutralise any adverse effects of low grade infections, whilst supporting the body’s immune system and organs of elimination Chinese Herbal Medicine could be introduced at later stages to consolidate the treatment, when the digestive system is strong enough to effectively absorb the herbs.
